The judges think Egyptian-born Filo was BORN TO SING after hearing him take on “Try a Little Tenderness” by Otis Redding. A golden ticket is a far cry from playing Shrek in his eighth grade musical! A big part of Filo’s story is his mom, Haidi, who’s here with him today and stands sobbing with pride outside the door while Filo is singing. But she still wants him to get that medical degree, even if he wins American Idol!

The twenty-third season of American Idol premiered on March 2, 2025, on the ABC television network. Ryan Seacrest returned as host; Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie returned as judges, along with season four winner Carrie Underwood replacing Katy Perry as a judge.
It was first recorded on December 8, 1932, by the Ray Noble Orchestra, with vocals by Val Rosing. Another version, also recorded in 1932, was made by Charlie Palloy & his Orchestra. Ted Lewis (Columbia 2748 D) and Ruth Etting (Melotone 12625) had hits with it in 1933. Bing Crosby also recorded it on January 9, 1933, for Brunswick Records. A version by Bob and Alf Pearson was also released in 1933. The song appeared on Frank Sinatra’s debut album, The Voice of Frank Sinatra, in 1946.
