The Irrational is an American crime drama television series created by Arika Mittman. It is based on the life of Dan Ariely and on his 2008 non-fiction book Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions. The Irrational premiered September 25, 2023, on NBC. It was renewed for a second season, which began airing on October 8, 2024.
The series follows Professor Alec Mercer (Jesse L. Martin), a world-renowned professor of behavioral psychology, especially human irrationality. Mercer cooperates with the police and FBI when they need his help with special cases. His interest in the field started after a bombing left him scarred, and aspects from this case begin to surface once again.
