28 Years Later is a post-apocalyptic horror film produced and directed by Danny Boyle, who directed the original 28 Days Later along with other acclaimed films (Trainspotting, The Beach, Millions, Sunshine, A Life Less Ordinary, Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours, Trance, Steve Jobs, Yesterday). The screenplay is written by Boyle and Alex Garland. It is the third film in the 28 Days Later series, following 28 Days Later (2002) and 28 Weeks Later (2007). It is scheduled to be released in the United States and the United Kingdom by Sony Pictures Releasing on June 20, 2025.
The horror thriller film is produced by Columbia Pictures in association with the British Film Institute, Decibel Films, and DNA Films; with Bernard Bellew, Danny Boyle, Alex Garland, Andrew Macdonald, and Peter Rice serving as producers. 28 Years Later stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes, with Cillian Murphy reprising his role as Jim on the original 28 Days Later.
Set almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory and still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the mainland, he discovers secrets and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.
