It is based on Benjamin Woolley’s non-fiction book The King’s Assassin (2017) about the affair between James VI and I and George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham. The seven-part limited series was released on Sky Atlantic in the United Kingdom on March 5, 2024 and is scheduled for release on Starz on April 5, 2024 in the United States.
