Next Goal Wins is an American biographical sports comedy-drama film directed by Taika Waititi (Eagle vs. Shark, Boy, What We Do in the Shadows, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Love and Thunder). The screenplay is written by Waititi and Iain Morris. It is based on the 2014 documentary of the same name by Mike Brett and Steve Jamison about Dutch-American coach Thomas Rongen’s efforts to lead the American Samoa national football team to qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Next Goal Wins is scheduled to be released by Searchlight Pictures in US theaters nationwide on November 17, 2023.
