The futuristic sci-fi satire is set in 2033, when people can have their consciousness uploaded to a luxurious digital afterlife of their choosing. People near death can be “uploaded” into virtual reality afterlife hotels run by 6 tech firms. The series follows cash-strapped Nora, who lives in Brooklyn and works customer service for the very expensive “Lakeview” digital afterlife. When L.A. computer programmer Nathan Brown dies prematurely, his high-maintenance girlfriend uploads him permanently into Nora’s VR world. As Nathan adjusts to the pros and cons of digital heaven, he bonds with Nora, his living customer service rep, who’s slowly coming to believe that Nathan was m–dered.
