Enter the Dragon is a 1973 martial arts film directed by genre director Robert Clouse (Darker Than Amber, Dreams of Glass, Black Belt Jones, Golden Needles, The Ultimate Warrior, The Amsterdam Kill, The Pack, The London Connection, Battle Creek Brawl, Force: Five, Deadly Eyes, Gymkata, China O’Brien, China O’Brien 2, Ironheart). Clouse also directed Bruce Lee’s last released film, Game of Death. The screenplay is written by Michael Allin and Bruce Lee (uncredited). Enter the Dragon initially premiered in New York City, New York, USA on August 17, 1973, prior to a wider release on August 19, 1973. On its 50th Anniversary, Enter the Dragon will have a special engagement theatrical re-release by Fathom Events on August 13 & 16, 2023 in select US theaters.
The iconic film is produced by Raymond Chow, Paul M. Heller, Leonard Ho (uncredited), Bruce Lee (uncredited), and Fred Weintraub. Enter the Dragon stars Bruce Lee, in his final completed film appearance before his death on July 20, 1973 at the age of 32. Also starring John Saxon, Jim Kelly, Ahna Capri, Kien Shih, and Robert Wall. Future martial arts superstars Chuck Norris and Jackie Chan appear in bit roles in this 1973 blockbuster.
Enter the Dragon was estimated to have grossed over US$100 million worldwide (equivalent of over $660 million adjusted for inflation in 2022) in its initial 1973 worldwide release, against a budget of $850,000. With multiple re-releases around the world over the next several decades, its worldwide gross increased to be equivalent of over $2 billion as of 2022.
