The Pod Generation is a 2023 science fiction romantic comedy film written and directed by Sophie Barthes (Cold Souls, Madame Bovary). It is set to be released on August 11, 2023 in US theaters nationwide, by Vertical Entertainment and Roadside Attractions.
The sci-fi romcom is produced by Nadia Khamlichi, Genevieve Lemal, Martin Metz, and Yann Zenou, with Emilia Clarke serving as one of its executive producers. It initially premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival on January 19, 2023 where it won the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize. The film also won the Maria Mitchell Visionary Award at the Nantucket Film Festival. The Pod Generation stars Emilia Clarke and Chiwetel Ejiofor, along with Rosalie Craig, Vinette Robinson, Kathryn Hunter, and Jean-Marc Barr.
The Pod Generation follows Rachel (Clarke) and Alvy (Ejiofor), a New York couple who are ready to start a family. As a rising tech company executive, Rachel lands a spot at the Womb Center, which offers couples the opportunity to share pregnancy by utilizing mobile, artificial wombs, or “pods”. Alvy, a botanist and devoted purist about the natural environment, has doubts, but his love for Rachel prompts him to take a leap of faith.
