The twenty-first season of the reality show singing competition American Idol premiered on February 19, 2023, on the ABC television network. The Idol Across America virtual auditions program returned from the previous two seasons. The remote auditions took place from August 3 to September 14, 2022, as well as a number of open-call auditions, and from these, the producers selected the contestants who can then audition in front of the judges.
“Whataya Want from Me” is a song by American recording artist and American Idol eighth season runner-up Adam Lambert from his debut studio album, For Your Entertainment. It was released as the second single from the album. The song peaked at number ten on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming his highest charting single. The song was well received by music critics and charted within the top 10 of the charts in thirteen countries.
