The First Fallen 2023
On New Year’s Eve of 1983, a group of LGBTQIA+ men and women from Espírito Santo, Brazil decided to celebrate the New Year together, with no idea of the looming health crisis approaching. Suzano, who is a biologist, begins to notice the signs of infection early on. With an uncertain future and lack of information, the biologist approaches Rose, a transsexual, and videomaker Humberto, both also infected by HIV.
The First Fallen (originally titled Os Primeiros Soldados) is a drama film written and directed by Rodrigo de Oliveira (As Horas Vulgares, “Teobaldo Morto, Romeu Exilado”). It is scheduled to be released in select US theaters on February 10, 2023.
This drama is produced by Rodrigo de Oliveira and Vitor Graize. The First Fallen had its world premiere at the Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival on November 12, 2021 and released on the same day in Brazil. The film won the Special Jury Prize at the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival 2021 and Mostra Olhos Livres – Best Film at Tiradentes Film Festival 2022.
