It is the second longest-running drama series in the history ot television, next only to its spin-off Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999-present). Airing its entire run on NBC, Law & Order premiered on September 13, 1990. It was renewed through a twenty-second season, which premiered on September 22, 2022.
Set and filmed in New York City, the series will continue the classic two-part or bifurcated format that was created for its original run. The first half-hour is the investigation of a c–me and apprehension of a suspect by New York City Police Department detectives; the second half is the prosecution of the defendant by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
