Mammals is a six-part series created by James Richardson, directed by Stephanie Laing, and written by two-time Olivier and Tony Award-winning screenwriter and filmmaker Jez Butterworth, who also serves as showrunner. It is executive produced by Butterworth, James Corden and James Richardson. Mammals will debut streaming on Amazon Prime Video on November 11, 2022.
The series starts as a romantic getaway, but quickly escalates into a dark comedy drama which explores the truths at the heart of modern relationships. In a world of eight billion, what happens after we’ve found ‘the one’? Can we stay true to the promises we strive to keep when, after all, aren’t we all just Mammals?
Mammals tells the story of Jamie (James Corden), a chef whose world implodes when he discovers shocking secrets about his pregnant wife, Amandine (Melia Kreiling). He finds himself hunting for answers with the help of his brother-in-law Jeff (Colin Morgan). Soon, the cracks in Jeff’s marriage to Jamie’s sister Lue (Sally Hawkins) also widen. Jeff attempts to get through to Lue, but this only makes Lue descend deeper into a secret fantasy world. Meanwhile, after a tragic loss, Amandine delves into her passion for violin but finds solace from an unlikely source. When the consequences of all of their actions come to light, the revelations send shockwaves through both families.
