The elaborate police operation depicted in the film in order to catch a m–derer who has evaded conviction for eight years is a fictionalized account based on Kate Kyriacou’s book THE STING: The Undercover Operation that Caught Daniel Morcombe’s K–ler. The Stranger is scheduled to be released by Transmission Films in Australia on October 6, 2022, prior to streaming worldwide on Netflix on October 19, 2022.
