Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3 Paramount+
Star Trek: Lower Decks is an American adult animated television series created by Emmy Award winner Mike McMahan (“Rick and Morty,” “Solar Opposites”) for the streaming service CBS All Access (later rebranded as Paramount+). It is the ninth Star Trek series and is part of executive producer Alex Kurtzman’s expanded Star Trek Universe. Lower Decks is the franchise’s first animated series since the 1970s series Star Trek: The Animated Series, and its first comedic series. Star Trek: Lower Decks premiered on CBS All Access on August 6, 2020. It was renewed through the third season, which will premiere on Paramount+ on August 25, 2022, and will run for 10 episodes. A fourth season was ordered in January 2022 and is expected to be released in 2023.
The series follows the low-ranking support crew of the starship Cerritos beginning in the year 2380. The third season follows Captain Freeman’s trial for allegedly destroying the Pakled homeworld. The lower deckers will have new personal missions, taking the first steps towards moving up in rank. The season will also feature connections and references to past Star Trek series such as Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, including several actors returning as guest stars.
