When Calls the Heart is an American television drama series, inspired by Janette Oke’s book of the same name from her Canadian West series, and developed by Michael Landon Jr. The series began airing on the Hallmark Channel in the United States on January 11, 2014, and on April 16, 2014 on Super Channel in Canada. When Calls the Heart was renewed through the ninth season, which premiered on March 6, 2022 on the Hallmark Channel.
This drama series follows single mother Elizabeth Thornton (Erin Krakow) in the 1910 coal town of Hope Valley (originally named Coal Valley). Elizabeth is Hope Valley’s beloved schoolteacher who navigates life alone when her husband is suddenly killed on duty.
In Season 9, Hope Valley is in a state of growth, with the foundry’s progress and the evolution of key relationships. The mayoral race has the town buzzing with a few members of the town running against one another. Elizabeth and Lucas focus on their relationship beyond courtship. As she gets to know Lucas better, Elizabeth learns about his past, which gives her pause about their future.
