Lightyear is produced by Galyn Susman with production companies Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures. It is based based on characters created by Pete Docter for the original Toy Story. The film is scheduled to be released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on June 17, 2022.
In December 2020, Lightyear was announced as a spin-off film of Toy Story, depicting the in-universe origin of the human Buzz Lightyear, with Chris Evans providing the titular character’s voice.
