Censor follows Enid Baines (Niamh Algar), a film censor who takes pride in her work, guarding the unsuspecting audiences from the deleterious effects of watching the gore-filled movies she pores over. Her sense of duty to protect is amplified by guilt over her inability to recall details of the long-ago disappearance of her sister, recently declared dead in absentia. But when Enid is assigned to review a disturbing film from the archive that echoes her hazy childhood memories, she begins to unravel how this eerie work might be tied to her past. Censor is produced by Helen Sara Jones. The film had its world premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival in the Midnight section on January 28, 2021. It will be released in select US theaters on June 11, 2021 then on VOD on June 18, 2021.
Bailey-Bond’s Censor won the Méliès d’Argent award at the 2021 Imagine Film Festival, NL and the Directors to Watch award at the 2021 Palm Springs International Film Festival.
