The nineteenth season of the reality show singing competition American Idol premiered on February 14, 2021 on the ABC television network. It is the fourth season to air on ABC since the series reboot; Ryan Seacrest returns as host. Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie return as judges and Bobby Bones as mentor.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, the show offered its first ever live virtual auditions to aspiring contestants through its Idol Across America program using custom-built Zoom technology. The remote auditions took place from August 10 to October 28, 2020 in 50 states plus Washington, D.C. as well as a number of open call auditions, and from these the producers selected the contestants who can then audition in front of the judges.
“Castle on the Hill” is a song by English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. It was released as a digital download on 6 January 2017 as one of the double lead singles from his third studio album ÷ (2017), along with “Shape of You”. “Castle on the Hill” was written and produced by Ed Sheeran and Benny Blanco. The song refers to Framlingham Castle in Sheeran’s home town of Framlingham in Suffolk, and reminisces tales of his upbringing in the town. The BBC states, “the song has been described as a love letter to Suffolk.”

“Foolish Games” is a song by American singer-songwriter Jewel from her debut studio album Pieces of You (1995). It was also the third single to be lifted from the Batman & Robin motion picture soundtrack. Jewel re-recorded the single for the soundtrack to produce a more radio-friendly version, similar to her other singles “Who Will Save Your Soul” and “You Were Meant for Me”. This version is shorter than the album version by one verse. The song details the frustration and agony of knowing that the intensity of one’s love is not reciprocated by one’s lover.
