The nineteenth season of the reality show singing competition American Idol premiered on February 14, 2021 on the ABC television network. It is the fourth season to air on ABC since the series reboot; Ryan Seacrest returns as host. Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie return as judges and Bobby Bones as mentor.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, the show offered its first ever live virtual auditions to aspiring contestants through its Idol Across America program using custom-built Zoom technology. The remote auditions took place from August 10 to October 28, 2020 in 50 states plus Washington, D.C. as well as a number of open call auditions, and from these the producers selected the contestants who can then audition in front of the judges.
“Call Out My Name” is the first single in the United States from The Weeknd’s first EP, My Dear Melancholy. The song was streamed 6 million times on its first day on Apple Music and debuted at number four on the US Billboard Hot 100 on the issue dated April 14, 2018, becoming his eighth top ten entry. As of March 2020, the song has sold 3,000,000 copies in the United States.
