The nineteenth season of the reality show singing competition American Idol premiered on February 14, 2021 on the ABC television network. It is the fourth season to air on ABC since the series reboot; Ryan Seacrest returns as host. Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie return as judges and Bobby Bones as mentor.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, the show offered its first ever live virtual auditions to aspiring contestants through its Idol Across America program using custom-built Zoom technology. The remote auditions took place from August 10 to October 28, 2020 in 50 states plus Washington, D.C. as well as a number of open call auditions, and from these the producers selected the contestants who can then audition in front of the judges.
“Wicked Game” is a song by American rock musician Chris Isaak, released from his third studio album Heart Shaped World (1989). Despite being released as a single in 1989, it did not become a hit until it was featured in the 1990 David Lynch film Wild at Heart. Lee Chesnut, an Atlanta radio station music director who loved David Lynch films, began playing the song, and it quickly became an American top-ten hit in January 1991, reaching number six on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the first hit song of Isaak’s career. Additionally, the single became a number-one hit in Belgium and reached the top 10 in several other nations.
