The nineteenth season of the reality show singing competition American Idol premiered on February 14, 2021 on the ABC television network. It is the fourth season to air on ABC since the series reboot; Ryan Seacrest returns as host. Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie return as judges and Bobby Bones as mentor.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, the show offered its first ever live virtual auditions to aspiring contestants through its Idol Across America program using custom-built Zoom technology. The remote auditions took place from August 10 to October 28, 2020 in 50 states plus Washington, D.C. as well as a number of open call auditions, and from these the producers selected the contestants who can then audition in front of the judges.
“Before You Go” was released as a single from the extended edition of Lewis Capaldi’s debut studio album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, on 19 November 2019. The song reached number one on the Irish Singles Chart in November 2019 and on the UK Singles Chart in January 2020, becoming Capaldi’s second chart-topper in the UK and third in Ireland.
“Nobody” was released as a Digital download on March 1 2019. The song peaked at number 52 on the UK Singles Chart.
