The Man Who Sold His Skin tells the story of Sam Ali (Yahya Mahayni), a young and impulsive Syrian, who left his country for Lebanon to escape the war. To be able to travel to Europe and live with the love of his life, he accepts to have his back tattooed by one of by the world’s most famous contemporary artists. This film is a 2020 internationally co-produced drama written and directed by Kaouther Ben Hania (Beauty and the Dogs). Its plot was inspired by Belgian contemporary artist Wim Delvoye’s living work Tim (2006). The film was selected as the Tunisian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards. In March 2021, it was nominated for the Best International Feature Film.

The Man Who Sold His Skin is produced by Habib Attia, Nadim Cheikhrouha, Martin Hampel, Thanassis Karathanos, Annabella Nezri, and Andreas Rocksen. This film originally premiered at the Venice Film Festival (September 2020) where Yahya Mahayni won the Best Actor Award and Edipo Re Award for Kaouther Ben Hania. It premiered in the Horizons section at the 77th Venice International Film Festival, where Yahya Mahayni won the Best Actor Award. The film also won for Best Arab Film – Feature Narrative Competition at the El Gouna Film Festival and Best Screenplay at the Stockholm Film Festival.
Samuel Goldwyn Films will release The Man Who Sold His Skin in select US theaters on April 2, 2021.
