Shiva Baby tells the story of Danielle (Rachel Sennott), a directionless young bisexual Jewish woman who attends a shiva with her family. Other attendees include her embittered but successful ex-girlfriend Maya (Molly Gordon), and her sugar daddy Max (Danny Deferrari) with his shiksa wife Kim (Dianna Agron) and their screaming baby. Danielle has a lot of secrets she’s keeping, including her relationship with Max. But she finds out that many of them have secrets of their own, and is offended when she discovers someone has been lying to her. Startattle.com – Shiva Baby 2021.
This 2020 comedy film is written and directed by Emma Seligman, in her feature directorial debut. Shiva Baby is adapted from Seligman’s own 2018 short film of the same name and stars Rachel Sennott, Molly Gordon, Polly Draper, Dianna Agron, Danny Deferrari, and Fred Melamed.

Shiva Baby 2021
Shiva Baby is produced by Kieran Altmann, Katie Schiller, Lizzie Shapiro. The film premiered online at the South by Southwest 2020 film festival, while its first public screenings were at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is set to be released by Utopia in select US theaters and on VOD on April 2, 2021.
Seligman’s Shiva Baby has already bagged several awards including Audience Award for Feature Fiction at the Adelaide Film Festival 2020; Best Feature Film at Image+Nation; Best Narrative Feature and Audience Award – Best Narrative Feature at Indie Memphis; Best Screenwriting at Outfest; Rising Star (Rachel Sennott) at the Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival; and 10 Screenwriters to Watch at Variety/ Mill Valley Film Festival.
