The fifth season of the American television series The Masked Singer had its premiere on Fox on March 10, 2021.
Singer-songwriter Robin Thicke, television and radio personality Jenny McCarthy, actor and comedian Ken Jeong, and recording artist Nicole Scherzinger returned for their fifth season as panelists. Regular host Nick Cannon tested positive for COVID-19 a few days before production was set to begin in February 2021. Niecy Nash is currently the guest host for an unannounced number of episodes.
The season began with two groups of five, Group A and Group B, then will introduce a new twist in which “wild card” contestants will enter the competition throughout the run of the show for a chance to unseat another contestant. The contestants for Season 5 have a combined “26 Grammy nominations, nine multi-platinum singles, four Oscar nominations, three Super Bowl appearances, six gold medals and two world records among them”. Costumes for this season include Black Swan, Chameleon, Grandpa Monster, Phoenix, Piglet, Raccoon, Robopine, Russian Dolls, Seashell, and Snail. This season also includes a non-contestant mask called “Cluedle-Doo”, who will interrupt the show and give out new clues.
“Ring of Fire” is a song from Johnny Cash’s 1963 album, Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash. The song was originally recorded by June Carter Cash’s sister, Anita Carter, on her Mercury Records album Folk Songs Old and New (1963) as “(Love’s) Ring of Fire”. It stayed at number one on the country chart for seven weeks and was certified Gold on January 21, 2010, by the RIAA and has also sold over 1.2 million digital downloads. “Ring of Fire” was ranked No. 4 on CMT’s 100 Greatest Songs of Country Music in 2003 and #87 on Rolling Stone’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. In June 2014, Rolling Stone ranked the song #27 on its list of the 100 greatest country songs of all time.
