The nineteenth season of the reality show singing competition American Idol premiered on February 14, 2021 on the ABC television network. It is the fourth season to air on ABC since the series reboot; Ryan Seacrest returns as host. Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie return as judges and Bobby Bones as mentor.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, the show offered its first ever live virtual auditions to aspiring contestants through its Idol Across America program using custom-built Zoom technology. The remote auditions took place from August 10 to October 28, 2020 in 50 states plus Washington, D.C. as well as a number of open call auditions, and from these the producers selected the contestants who can then audition in front of the judges.
“I Kissed a Girl” is the debut single from Katy Perry’s second studio album, One of the Boys (2008). The song was released on April 28, 2008 and topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for seven consecutive weeks and also topped the charts in several countries. It is the 1,000th number-one song of the rock era. The single has sold 4.8 million digital copies in the US alone and is recognized as the 10th best-selling single in the 21st century.
