The nineteenth season of the reality show singing competition American Idol will premiere on February 14, 2021 on the ABC television network. It is the fourth season to air on ABC since the series reboot; Ryan Seacrest will return as host. Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie will return as judges and Bobby Bones will return as mentor.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, the show offered its first ever live virtual auditions to aspiring contestants through its Idol Across America program using custom-built Zoom technology. The remote auditions took place from August 10 to October 28, 2020 in 50 states plus Washington, D.C. as well as a number of open call auditions, and from these the producers selected the contestants who can then audition in front of the judges.
After the necessary dad-jokes made about his name (ahem…Luke Bryan), bright-faced Beane brings a fun-loving and infectious ambiance to his rendition of “Wait For The Moment,” by VULFPECK, for his American Idol audition. Lionel Richie calls Beane the “modern-day Mister Rogers,” complimenting Beane on his familiarity, but is also concerned that he may not be the right fit for American Idol. Fortunately for us, Lionel and Katy both see something “special” in Beane and decide to send him through to Hollywood! Will Beane take Katy’s advice and “play his strong suits” during Hollywood Week?
