Amundsen (aka Amundsen: The Greatest Expedition) tells the story of Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen (Pål Sverre Hagen), who was the leader of the first expedition to reach the South Pole in 1911, and the first person to reach both the North and South Poles in 1926. The biographical film will portray his all-consuming drive as a polar explorer, his obsession with the idea of discovering the last unchartered lands of the world. While he wins the race against Robert Scott to become the first man ever to conquer the South Pole, Amundsen will sacrifice everything to be the first to explore the icy wastelands of the North Pole. This Norwegian film is directed by filmmaker Espen Sandberg (co-director of Kon-Tiki, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Max Manus: Man of War, Bandidas), in his solo debut. Amundsen’s screenplay is written by Ravn Lanesskog.
