Resident Alien is an American science fiction mystery comedy-drama TV series, based on a comic book of the same name by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, that premiered on January 27, 2021 on Syfy. It tells the story of an alien who takes on the identity of a small-town Colorado doctor after crash-landing on Earth. He wrestles with the moral dilemma of his secret mission while also dealing with a 9 year old boy who is the only person who can recognize he is an alien.
The series is created as a joint venture by Universal Cable Productions, Dark Horse Entertainment, and Amblin Television and was adapted for television by Chris Sheridan. The show’s executive producers include Sheridan, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, David Dobkin, Justin Falvey, and Darryl Frank.
On May 31, 2018, Syfy announced that it placed a pilot order for the series. On February 28, 2019, Syfy gave a series order with production starting in Vancouver and that David Dobkin will direct the pilot and would be executive producer of the series. Production began on October 1, 2018, with Alan Tudyk starring as Harry. As part of the adaptation process, the fictional setting of Patience was relocated from Washington to Colorado.
Alan Tudyk is an American actor and voice actor known for his roles as Hoban “Wash” Washburne in the space western series Firefly and the film Serenity and Tucker McGee in Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. He has also had starring roles in the films DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story; I, Robot; A Knight’s Tale; 42; Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, and Rogue One. Since voicing King Candy in 2012’s Wreck-It Ralph, Tudyk has voiced characters in every Walt Disney Animation Studios feature film.
