Lee (Lin-Manuel Miranda) and Hester (Cristela Alonzo) meet a shaman named Jopari (Andrew Scott) and his daemon, Sayan Kötör (Phoebe Waller-Bridge). Jopari said he is Grumman and that in another world, he left a son named Will (Amir Wilson). Meanwhile, Will and Lyra (Dafne Keen) make a plan, unaware of the dangers or the cost involved. They ascend the Tower of the Angels in Cittàgazze where they meet Giacomo Paradisi (Terence Stamp), the bearer of the knife they seek. A young man has stolen the knife and Will fights him. Will gets the knife from him, but loses two fingers in the fight. Paradisi tells Will that the fingers are the sign that he is the next bearer and explains that the knife can cut portals between worlds. In the witches’ territories, Serafina Pekkala (Ruta Gedmintas) tells Ruta Skadi (Jade Anouka) that Lyra went through the portal Asriel created. They attack the Magisterium airships guarding it and go through to find Lyra.
