One Night in Miami… is a 2020 American drama film about a fictionalized meeting of Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown, and Sam Cooke in a Miami hotel room in February 1964, celebrating Ali’s surprise title win over Sonny Liston. It is the first feature directed by Regina King, from a screenplay by Kemp Powers based on his stage play of the same name, and stars Kingsley Ben-Adir, Eli Goree, Aldis Hodge and Leslie Odom Jr..
The Venice Film Festival hosted the world premier on September 7, 2020, which had never selected a film directed by an African-American before. Critics were overwhelmingly positive, praising King’s direction, the performances, and the writing.
Amazon Studios scheduled its limited theatrical release for December 25, 2020, before being released digitally on Prime Video on January 15, 2021.
