When we got into rehearsals, really pushed Payton to explore her range. She was doing a lot of things where she would try to get away from a big note by getting in her head voice. And she put the work in and you hear this range that she has. So, really, I’ll say proud of you like I’m your grandpa or something. That’s something that, you’re gonna always have that in your tools now.
And Jus Jon, it’s like his voice is going through some sort of an echo chamber that just makes the coolest sound. And I was surprised a little bit to see the nerves, but not really. I mean, look at this. What the hell is this, you know? Great job. I’m just super proud grandpa over here.
On choosing Jus Jon: Jus Jon. His tone, his strength in his voice is just undeniable. Moving forward, I want to explore that a little bit.
Gwen Stefani’s comment
I loved it. When Payton came in, I was just so shocked by your voice. And it’s unexpected when you get up to your high range and you have so much strength up there. Jus Jon, it was just so natural, and your stage presence is really flawless. I think that it’s almost impossible to pick ’cause it’s like such different styles of singing.
John Legend’s comment
Well, I thought you had great energy together. Payton, your range is just ridiculous. It’s so cool to see all those high notes you’re able to hit. And Jus Jon, in some ways, you kind of remind me of Usher. And that’s a high compliment.
Kelly Clarkson’s comment
I’ll start with you, Payton. Your range is incredible. Your voice is really, really pretty and it’s really particular. It’s very much a style that not many people have. And Jus Jon, I thought you were just a little bit nervous in the beginning. You literally did this like into, like your hand was like — ’cause I do this, I dial a rotary phone. I don’t know why. Then, you kind of like flourish the rest of the song. And your voice is really cool like the tone and how open and big it gets. It was nice.
