Chaos Walking is an American sci-fi action film directed by Doug Liman (Swingers, Go, The Bourne Identity, Jumper, Mr & Mrs Smith, Fair Game, Edge of Tomorrow, The Wall, American Made). Its screenplay is written by Patrick Ness and Christopher Ford, adapted from the book “The Knife of Never Letting Go”, which is the first book of the sci-fi trilogy “Chaos Walking” by Ness. The film stars Daisy Ridley, Tom Holland, Mads Mikkelsen, Demián Bichir, Cynthia Erivo, Nick Jonas, and David Oyelowo. Startattle.com – Chaos Walking.

In the not too distant future, Todd Hewitt discovers Viola, a mysterious girl who crash lands on his planet called the New World, where all the women have disappeared and the men are afflicted by “the Noise” – a force that puts all their thoughts on display. Todd has been brought up to believe that a pathogen has killed all women and unleashed the Noise. In this dangerous landscape, Viola’s life is threatened. And as Todd vows to protect Viola while he is hunted down by the fanatical Mayor Prentiss, he will have to discover his own inner power and unlock the dark secrets of their world.
Lionsgate acquired worldwide distribution rights to a film adaptation of Patrick Ness’s Chaos Walking trilogy in Octboer 2011. The film Chaos Walking, is based on the first book (The Knife of Never Letting Go) of the trilogy. It is produced by Doug Davison, Allison Shearmur, Erwin Stoff and Alison Winter. Chaos Walking is set to be released by Lionsgate on January 22, 2021.
It was reported in August 2016 that Daisy Ridley joined the cast and will be playing Viola. Ridley was apparently a fan of the books. Tom Holland joined the cast in November 2016.
Principal photography on the film began in Montreal, Quebec and was also shot in Scotland and Iceland.
Following poor test screenings, reshoots were done in Atlanta starting April 2019, with Fede Álvarez directing them. The original release date of March 1, 2019 was delayed to accommodate the said reshoots.
