Blake Shelton’s comment
I don’t think this is fair because of the age difference. I mean, Larriah, you are months older than Carter.
When this thing started, I thought Larriah had the edge because I just felt she had a little bit more of a grip on the song and a little bit more control. But then I think Carter may have caught on to that. When he came in on his half of the first chorus, it was like, “Whoa. What the hell is this kid doing now?”
I guess if I was having to just say a reason, Larriah, she ended just as strong as she started.
Gwen Stefani’s comment
Every second that goes by, I keep changing my mind.
Larriah was a one-chair-turn, and then we get into rehearsals and Larriah blows us away. You have already lived a whole life at 15 years old, and Julia saw that in you and saw that you were singing from your heart.
Carter, I think you have this incredible voice that you can do all this stuff with, and you’re just getting started. To watch you perform the way you did, you just had a lot more confidence in your body language, and I saw a big growth in that. Vocally, you just were so incredible today.
On choosing Carter Rubin: I love Carter and Larriah so much, and that was the worst thing ever to have to choose. They were both equally so deserving to move forward. Ultimately, Carter has a little bit more of a unique sound to his voice and a unique gift being so young and a male, and he has such a beautiful tone.
On Saving Larriah Jackson: I love her. Larriah, since rehearsals, I have not stopped thinking about you. You have like, so much to give to the world. I just feel it, so I’m so happy I got to save you.
John Legend’s comment
You both were just wonderful. Usually I’m very judgy when it comes to songs that I recorded, but I was thoroughly impressed with your take on the song. I thought you found new places to go musically with the song.
Carter, you know I wanted you on my team. I feel like I had a good shot. And I was really, like, a little bit hurt when you didn’t pick me. But I did feel you were just so impressive and interesting musically.
And Larriah, it sounded so comfortable. And your tone, it was rich and beautiful and mature. And so I’m going to say I would lean a little bit, just by a hair, toward Larriah.
Kelly Clarkson’s comment
That was so well done. Like all your choices, how you kind of floated together. That little thing you all did where it slowed down, I was like “What!” Like you’re 14 and 15, that’s insane.
If I’m gonna have to pick, which I definitely don’t want to do.
(To Blake Shelton’s joke that Kelly will be fined $25K by NBC if she does not pick one) You know what, it is worth it. I’m not picking.
