Judges’ Comments:
Kelly Clarkson was ecstatic over Ryan’s audition and said that from the strings in the beginning of the song, she already thought the performance is going to be so good. “Your voice is so magical.” She told Ryan not to be swayed by Blake who said that Ryan is the world’s most interesting man. She said, “He has no idea what to do with you. First of all, no one in this competition can touch you. You are totally unique. I really don’t want to let the cowboy take you away from me because I will cry tonight, and you don’t want to make me cry, right?”
Blake Shelton said he is a proud member of the “Grand Ole Opera” in Nashville. He said that Kelly is not telling Ryan that he would be the third opera singer that she would have on her team, a statement which Kelly vehemently denied and for which she called Blake a liar. But Blake continued and said, “You would be the third, so that lane is already taken out. You really want to shock people, Ryan. You really want to blow people’s minds. You want to make a wave. Shock factor is something that always works on this show. The odd pairings… Did you ever think that as an opera singer you would end up on “The Voice” stage? Why not just finish it out? Let’s go for it, man. Let’s complete the circle. Let’s blow people’s minds. Let’s make “Voice” history”
Kelly chimed in with , “Or do you want to go to the finale, and sing a duet with me?”
Blake insisted that Ryan is the third opera singer on Kelly’s team, which Kelly disputed. She said, “Do you want to work with a liar or a non-liar?”
Blake added that in the last season, he managed to win the show from home. “Imagine what I can do for you being here.” In reply, Kelly told Ryan, “I love you so much more than him.”
“I’m not here to love you. I’m here to coach you. She can write you a Valentine card if that’s what you’re interested in. Let’s win this freaking show, Ryan,” Blake said.
With the exchange going on between Kelly and Blake, Gwen Stefani said when asked to comment, “I’m scared right now.”
John Legend said he sang a part of the song “The Prayer” in a quartet with Lady Gaga, Andrea Bocelli, and Celine Dion for the Together at Home concert for the COVID relief. “I sounded 1% as good as you sounded just now,” he said.
In the end, Ryan told Blake, “I have to say that you were my first pick, but, I’m gonna go with Kelly.”
