Strictly Come Dancing returned for its eighteenth series with a launch show on 17 October 2020 on BBC One, with the live shows starting on 24 October. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the series launched a month later than usual and will run for nine weeks instead of thirteen. Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman will return as hosts, while Zoe Ball and Rylan Clark-Neal will return to host Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two.
On 12 September, it was announced that for the first time since Series 10, the show live from Blackpool Tower Ballroom will be cancelled, also due to the pandemic. However, it was announced shortly after that there would be four episodes highlighting best moments by week from previous series. This started on 19 September, with Movie Week Highlights, Blackpool, followed by Musicals up until The Grand Final. The Grand Final episode featured a tribute to 2014 winner Caroline Flack, who died earlier in the year.
Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas and Motsi Mabuse will return to the judging panel. On 21 August 2020, it was announced that Bruno Tonioli would not be behind the judging panel for some of the show, whilst a judge on the programme’s American version, but would instead appear virtually.
