After a whirlwind romance in Monte Carlo with widower Maxim de Winter (Armie Hammer), a newly married young woman (Lily James) arrives at Manderley, her new husband’s imposing family estate on a windswept English coast. Naive and inexperienced, she begins to settle into the trappings of her new life. But she soon finds herself battling the shadow of Maxim’s first wife, the elegant and urbane Rebecca, whose haunting legacy is kept alive by Manderley’s sinister housekeeper Mrs. Danvers (Kristin Scott Thomas).
Rebecca is a British romantic thriller film directed by English filmmaker Ben Wheatley (Down Terrace, Sightseers, A Field in England, Free Fire, Happy New Year Colin Burstead) from a screenplay by Jane Goldman, Joe Shrapnel, and Anna Waterhouse. It is a modern adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier’s gothic novel of the same name, which was earlier adapted into Alfred Hitchcock’s 1940 film Rebecca. The film stars Lily James, Armie Hammer, Kristin Scott Thomas, Tom Goodman-Hill, Keeley Hawes, Sam Riley, and Ann Dowd.

Filming for Rebecca began on June 3, 2019 and in July 2019, Cranborne Manor in Dorset was used. Filming also took place at Hartland Quay in Devon by the end of July 2019.
Rebecca will be released on Netflix and in select US theaters on October 21, 2020.
