Seven years after the Monsterpocalypse, Joel Dawson (Dylan O’Brien) and the rest of humanity, has been living underground ever since giant monsters took control of the land. After reconnecting over radio with his high school girlfriend Aimee (Jessica Henwick), who is now 80 miles away at a coastal colony, Joel begins to fall for her again. Against all logic, Joel decides to venture out to Aimee, despite all the monsters that stand in his way.
Love and Monsters, formerly titled Monster Problems, is a post-apocalyptic action romantic comedy film directed by filmmaker Michael Matthews (Five Fingers for Marseilles). Its screenplay is written by Matthew Robinson, from a story by Brian Duffield. The film stars Dylan O’Brien, Michael Rooker, Ariana Greenblatt and Jessica Henwick.

Love and Monsters is produced by Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen. The film will be released by Paramount Pictures under its Paramount Players and MTV Films labels via video on demand on October 16, 2020.
When the film was announced in June 2012, it was described as a post-apocalyptic road movie like Mad Max and Zombieland with a John Hughes-esque love story.
In October 2018, it was announced that Dylan O’Brien was in talks to star. By March 2019, Michael Rooker and Ariana Greenblatt had joined the cast, with Michael Matthews as director. Jessica Henwick joined the cast in April 2019, along with Australian actor Dan Ewing.
Love and Monsters was originally scheduled for a March 6, 2020 release. But in October 2019, the release date was moved to April 17, 2020. In February 2020, it was moved again, to February 12, 2021. Then in August 2020, Paramount announced the film will not be released in theaters and instead will be released via video on demand on October 16, 2020. The film’s title, originally Monster Problems, was also changed to Love and Monsters.
