The first prehistoric family known as The Croods sets off into the world in search of a safer place to call home. When they discover a walled-in paradise, they think their problems are solved. But another family already lives there: the Bettermans. With their elaborate tree house, amazing inventions and irrigated acres of fresh produce, The Bettermans are a couple of steps above the Croods on the evolutionary ladder. When The Bettermans take The Croods in as the world’s first houseguests, it isn’t long before tensions escalate between them. Just when all seems lost, a new threat will propel both families on an epic adventure outside the safety of the wall, one that will force them to embrace their differences, draw strength from each other and forge a future together.
The Croods: A New Age (aka The Croods 2) is an American computer-animated comedy adventure film directed by animation filmmaker Joel Crawford, in his feature directorial debut. The screenplay is written by Dan and Kevin Hageman, based on The Croods created by Kirk De Micco and Chris Sanders. It is a sequel to the 2013 film The Croods, and will star the returning voices of Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke, and Cloris Leachman, with new cast members including Leslie Mann, Kelly Marie Tran, and Peter Dinklage.

The Croods: A New Age is produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Universal Pictures.It is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on November 25, 2020.
The sequel to the film The Croods was announced by Dreamworks Animation in April 2013, with Chris Sanders and Kirk DeMicco set to return as directors. On June 12, 2014, it was announced that the sequel would be released on November 3, 2017. Since then the film’s release date has been pushed back due to several developments including Comcast’s impending acquisition of Dreamworks Animation. Kevin and Dan Hageman were hired to rewrite the script in August 2016. In November 2016, Dreamworks announced that production was cancelled. In September 2017, DreamWorks and Universal revealed that the sequel was back in production with a September 18, 2020 release date. Both DeMicco and Sanders, the directors of the first film (The Croods), would not be returning. In October 2017, it was reported that Joel Crawford would direct the sequel and Mark Swift would produce the film.
The COVID-19 pandemic affected production of the film and shifted to people working at home.
