Sonny performed a heartfelt cover of “Spotlight” by Jennifer Hudson during the Blind Auditions of The Voice Kids UK 2020 (Season 4).
“Spotlight” is the first single from Jennifer Hudson’s self titled debut album. It was released digitally in June 2008 and reached the top 30 of the US Billboard Hot 100. The song received two Grammy Award nominations at the 2009 ceremony for Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
Sonny’s peformance earned a four-chair-turn from The Voice Kids UK coaches/judges. He eventually picked Paloma Faith as his Coach for the competition.

Paloma Faith said that Sonny has an exceptional voice, while Pixie Lott described him as an “original”. Danny Jones commented he felt the “Sonny sound” and noted his vibrato. Will.i.am affirmed that Sonny’s performance was phenomenal.
The Voice Kids (British series 4) – The Voice Kids UK is a British TV music competition to find new singing talent. The fourth series premiered on July 11, 2020, and will be broadcast on a weekly basis on ITV. As with the previous three series, it will be hosted by Emma Willis. Danny Jones, Pixie Lott and will.i.am return as coaches, but Jessie J has been replaced by Paloma Faith, who was also previously a coach on the adult version of the show.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the pre-recorded episodes – featuring the auditions and battle rounds – were filmed a few weeks before the nationwide lockdown in March 2020. No information on the live shows has been given yet.
The winner of The Voice Kids 2020 (Series 4) will receive £30,000 and a family trip to Universal Orlando Resort, Florida.
