Measure for Measure is a film adapted from Shakespeare’s play of the same name. The film follows the unlikely love affair between a young modern Muslim girl (Megan Smart) and a local musician against the background of racial tension and gang culture in the city’s notorious housing estate. It is also a raw study of the most basic and yet most complex of our emotions – love… how we react when we find it, and how far we would go to keep it.
This contemporary re-telling of Shakespeare’s play is directed by Scottish filmmaker Paul Ireland, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Damian Hill.

Measure for Measure premiered at the Melbourne Film Festival in August 2019. The film will be released by Samuel Goldwyn Films on video-on-demand on September 4, 2020.
British actor Hugo Weaving (age 60) portrays the role of Duke. Weaving is best known for his roles as Agent Smith in The Matrix trilogy (1999-2003), Elrond in The Lord of the Rings (2001-2003) and The Hobbit (2012-2014) film trilogies, V in V for Vendetta (2005), and Red Skull in the movie Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). He first became known for his performance as Martin in the Australian drama Proof (1991). Weaving’s awards for acting include a Satellite Award, an MTV Movie Award and six Australian Film Institute Awards.
