Magic Camp follows Andy Tuckerman (Adam Devine), who, at the urging of his former mentor and Magic Camp owner Roy Preston, returns as a counselor to the camp of his youth hoping to reignite his career and rediscover his love of magic.
This heartwarming American comedy family film about finding joy and confidence in self-acceptance is directed by American filmmaker Mark Waters (Freaky Friday, Mean Girls, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Vampire Academy, Bad Santa 2). The screenplay is co-written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue, Noah Harpster, Matt Spicer, Max Winkler, Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, with an original story written by Gabe Sachs, Jeff Judah, Spicer and Winkler. It was announced on November 2, 2016 that Walt Disney Pictures had cast Adam DeVine and Jeffrey Tambor to star in Magic Camp, which would be directed by Mark Waters from a latest script by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, and a previous draft by Steve Martin. The most recent draft of the script had been written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster, the project having been developed by Matt Spicer and Max Winkler. Sachs, Judah, Spicer and Winkler were ultimately credited with the story. On November 9, 2016, Gillian Jacobs was cast as Christina Darkwood. In the same month, Cole Sand was cast as Nathan. On January 4, 2017, Josie Totah (then known as J.J. Totah) was cast as Judd.
