Work It follows Quinn Ackerman (Sabrina Carpenter), a brilliant but clumsy high school senior whose admission to the college of her dreams depends on her performance at a dance competition. She forms a ragtag group of dancers to take on the best squad in school…now she just needs to learn how to dance and transform herself and her misfit squad into dance champions.

Adam Fogelson of STX announced the film on April 2, 2019, with Alicia Keys producing it. On May 2, 2019, it was announced that Sabrina Carpenter, Liza Koshy and Keiynan Lonsdale would star in the film. On July 2, 2019, it was announced that Netflix would distribute Work It and that Drew Ray Tanner, Michelle Buteau and Jordan Fisher joined the cast. It was also announced that day that Sabrina Carpenter would also serve as an executive producer.
Filming took place in Toronto and on the campus of California State University, Northridge (Los Angeles).
Work It will be released to Netflix on August 7, 2020.
