An old woodcarver named Geppetto (Roberto Benigni), receives a piece of wood perfect for his next project: a puppet. But something magical happens – the puppet begins to talk, and later learned to walk, run and eat like any young boy. Geppetto calls him Pinocchio (Federico Ielapi), and brings him up as his son.
But Pinocchio finds it hard to be good and longs for adventure. He is easily led astray, and he tumbles from one misadventure to another. He is kidnapped by bandits, encounters magical beasts, fantastical spectacles, and finds himself in the land of toys and the field of miracles. Pinocchio makes friends and foes along his journeys. His loyal friend, the Fairy with the Turquoise Hair, tries to make Pinocchio see that his dream of becoming a real boy can never come true until he finally changes his ways.
This live-action adaptation of the beloved fairytale is a 2019 Italian film co-written and directed by Matteo Garrone (Land in Between, Guests, Roman Summer, The Embalmer, First Love, Reality, Tale of Tales), based on the 1883 classic The Adventures of Pinocchio by Italian author Carlo Collodi.

Filming for Pinocchio went on for 11 weeks in Tuscany, at Tenuta La Fratta, Lazio and Apulia.
Pinocchio initially opened in Italy last December 2019, and premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2020. The film received 15 nominations at the David di Donatello Awards 2020, winning five: Best Sets and Decorations, Best Costumes, Best Makeup, Best Hair Design and Best Visual Effects.
In May 2020 Paolo Del Brocco, one of the movie’s producers, said they were very close to selling Pinocchio to the U.S., but the coronavirus outbreak or COVID-19 pandemic stalled the deal.
On July 27, 2020, it was announced that Vertigo Films had bought the UK and Ireland rights to the film, Pinocchio will be released in UK cinemas on August 14, 2020.
Pinocchio has received critical acclaim. On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 75%, based on 8 reviews.
