A revelation about the origins of their relationship and Hardin’s (Hero Fiennes-Tiffin) mysterious past makes Tessa (Josephine Langford) wonder if Hardin is really the deep, thoughtful guy she fell in love with. She wants to walk away, but it’s not that easy, considering the memory of the passionate nights they spent together.
Tessa’s now focused on her studies and is starting an exciting new internship at Vance Publishing. She’s also being pursued by Trevor (Dylan Sprouse), a handsome co-worker who is exactly the kind of guy she should be with. Meanwhile, Hardin knows he made a mistake, and wants to right his wrongs and overcome his demons. He’s not going to lose Tessa without a fight.

In May 2019, it was confirmed that a sequel to the film After was planned with Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin reprising their roles as Tessa and Hardin, respectively.
On August 5, it was announced that Dylan Sprouse was cast as Trevor, Tessa’s coworker and suitor. On August 15, the following actors joined the cast of the film: Charlie Weber, Rob Estes, Louise Lombard, Candice King, Karimah Westbrook, Max Ragone.
