Wolf Winters (age 32), Xy Latu (age 41), and Natalie Gauci (age 38) from Team Guy Sebastian performed “Old Town Road” by American rapper Lil Nas X, during the first-ever three-way battle on The Voice Australia 2020 (Season 9).
The three-way battle was cheered by the audience. Coach Guy Sebastian ultimately picked Wolf Winters as the winner of the battle, advancing him to the next round of the competition.

“Old Town Road” is a song first released independently in December 2018, then re-released by Columbia Records in March 2019 after it gained popularity especially on video sharing app Tik Tok. Lil Nas X also recorded a remix with American country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, which was released on April 5, 2019. Both versions eventually peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, for a record-breaking nineteen consecutive weeks. The remix featuring Cyrus was nominated for Record of the Year and won for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.

Right after the end of the eighth season, The Voice Australia was renewed for a ninth season and it was announced that all coaches would return for the new season.
The ninth season of The Voice Australia begun airing on May 24, 2020. For the first time in the show’s history all of the coaches are returning: Delta Goodrem for her eighth, Kelly Rowland and Boy George for their fourth and Guy Sebastian for his second. Following the exit of Sonia Kruger, Darren McMullen, who hosted the first three seasons, returns with new co-host, Renee Bargh.
The show is part of the television franchise The Voice and is structured as three phases: blind auditions, battle rounds and live performance shows. The show added another phase in 2017: the knockouts between the blind auditions and the battles. The winner receives a recording contract with Universal Music or EMI (2019) as well as A$100,000 and other prizes.
