The Surrogate tells the story of Jess Harris (Jasmine Batchelor), a 29 year old web designer in Brooklyn, who is ecstatic to be the surrogate and egg-donor for her best friend Josh (Chris Perfetti) and his husband Aaron (Sullivan Jones). But twelve weeks into her pregnancy, Jess’ prenatal test comes back with the unexpected result that the child she’s bearing has Down Syndrome. This poses a moral dilemma. As they all consider the best course of action, the relationship between the three friends is put to the test.
This film is written and directed by filmmaker Jeremy Hersh, in his feature directorial debut. Hersh is known for his award winning short films Actresses (2015) and Natives (2013). The Surrogate stars Jasmine Batchelor, Chris Perfetti, and Sullivan Jones.

The Surrogate is produced by Jonathan Blitstein, Julie Christeas, and Taylor Hess. The film premiered at the 2020 SXSW Film Festival online, where it was nominated for the SXSW Adam Yauch Hörnblowér Award. The Surrogate was released on VOD in the US on June 12, 2020.
American producer, writer, and actor Jasmine Batchelor portrays Jess. In addition to film and television, Jasmine has most recently been seen in productions at Manhattan Theatre Club, The Playwrights Realm, The Public Theater, Two River Theater, and Baltimore Center Stage.
Chris Perfetti plays the role of Josh. He has appeared in Sons of the Prophet and received a Theatre World Award for Best Debut Performance in an Off-Broadway play. Perfetti is also known for starring in Submissions Only (2010), Next Caller (2012), and the TV series Crossbones (2014), Looking (2015), and its subsequent series finale television film, Looking: The Movie (2016).
