The gang is swept up in the trial of the century after Dory (Alia Shawkat) and Drew (John Reynolds) are charged for the death of private investigator Keith Powell (Ron Livingston). As Elliott (John Early) and Portia (Meredith Hagner) grapple with whether or not to testify as witnesses, the friends are pitted against each other in the controversial case that thrusts them into the national spotlight.
Dory’s sanity starts to fracture, and it becomes clear that the group may not have brunch together again for quite some time.

Search Party is an American neo-noir dark comedy TV series created by Sarah-Violet Bliss, Charles Rogers, and Michael Showalter. Primarily set in New York City, the series follows a group of self-absorbed friends who become involved in the search for a missing young woman and the events that result from their involvement. It stars Alia Shawkat, John Early, John Reynolds, and Meredith Hagner.
The first season premiered on TBS on November 21, 2016, and the second season premiered on November 19, 2017. It was announced that the series would be moving to HBO Max streaming service, when it was renewed for a third season. The complete third season is scheduled to premiere on June 25, 2020. A fourth season has also been ordered.
Season 1 of Search Party focuses on the disappearance of Dory’s college acquaintance, Chantal Witherbottom (Clare McNulty). Dory sets out to find her, with Drew, Elliott, and Portia reluctantly joining in her investigation. While her friends also deal with difficulties in their own lives, Dory focuses on her pursuit of Chantal, believing her to be in danger.
Season 2 focuses on the death of Keith Powell (Ron Livingston), a private investigator who is killed as a result of Dory mistakenly believing him to be a threat to Chantal. As the group struggles to return to their normal lives, they also attempt to cover up Keith’s death, which affects them in different ways.
Search Party has received critical acclaim. On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the first season holds an approval rating of 100% based on 33 reviews, while its second season got a rating of 96% based on 23 reviews.
