Simon (age 12) and Maria (age 10), kid dancers from Colombia now living in New Jersey, brought their best salsa dance routine to the Auditions round on America’s Got Talent 2020 (Season 15).
In the interview backstage, Simon said they met at a dance studio and automatically clicked. Since then, they have become the best of friends and are together all the time even when they’re not dancing. Both born in Colombia, Simon and Maria are inspired by the newest AGT judge Sofia Vergara, who is also Colombian.
Before they performed, Sofia Vergara learned they were from Colombia and spoke to them in Spanish. She also reminded them, “Remember, this is for a million dollars.”
Simon and Maria dazzled everyone with their energetic performance and earned a standing ovation from the audience and the AGT judges. They ultimately got 4 Yes votes from the judges and advanced to the next round of the competition.

Colombian Kids Simon and Maria Impress Sofia Vergara – America’s Got Talent 2020
Simon and Maria met at the Quimbara Dance Studio in Elizabeth and have been dancing together for two years according to TAPintoUnion. They competed in the World Salsa Summit in Miami in January 2020 and won first place.
Judges Comments:
Sofia Vergara said, “I love your faces, I love how much you’re into the dance, it was fantastic to watch you. You guys had so much energy and I love the song you picked. These guys (referring to the other judges) won’t know anything about it but I do.”
Simon Cowell commented that he could tell how much time Simon and Maria spent rehearsing. “You have an amazing chemistry together. I think our audience are gonna fall in love with you too. I really, really do.”
Heidi Klum said that she has always loved kids who do more than sit in front of their computers. She says it takes a lot of hours of training for the dance duo to do such a routine.
Howie Mandel said, “You guys are a ray of sunshine. I think you’re amazing, you’re great.”
America’s Got Talent (AGT) Season 15 premiered in the United States on May 26, 2020, on NBC. For this season, AGT judges are Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, returning Heidi Klum, and newcomer Sofia Vergara.
This season is most notable for its production being affected by the COVID-19 or coronavirus pandemic in 2020, which impacted audition sessions. Auditions were later allowed to continue, but via online applications from those quarantined in their homes.
