Todd Tilghman (age 41) from Mississippi performed “I Can Only Imagine” by MercyMe during the Live Finale Top 5 Performances on The Voice 2020 (Season 18).
John Legend commented, “I remember turning for you and just being thrilled by your enthusiasm, and your heart, and your soul. And you gave it that tonight in spades. It was just a wonderful performance.”
Kelly Clarkson said she was crying with Todd’s performance. She commented, “Literally, you’re so moving and it’s because you’re a Pastor coz you have a bigger belief inside of you, than just yourself.” Kelly paused to compose herself. Still seemingly affected by Todd’s performance and choking with emotion, she continued, “I would love to come to your church just to hear you speak. Not only sing. You’re very special.”
Todd replied and said Kelly is welcome to his church, while Kelly is shown on screen wiping her tears away.
Coach Blake Shelton joked that he’s going to cry seeing Kelly cry. Blake said that what Kelly’s saying is true and that’s the connection Todd has with people. He said Todd is one of the best vocalists this season. “You sing with so much passion, so much precision. You’re just a special dude man, and America agrees that’s why you are in this finale.”

Todd Tilghman Performs MercyMe’s “I Can Only Imagine” – The Voice Finale Performances 2020
“I Can Only Imagine” is a song from MercyMe’s 2001 major-label debut album Almost There. It became a mainstream hit in 2003, peaking at No. 71 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 5 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart while also hitting top 40, adult top 40, and country radio charts. It returned to the charts after its story was adapted into a 2018 film of the same name.
Season 18 of The Voice premiered at 8PM on February 24, 2020 on NBC and will air Mondays at 8 PM. John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton returned as coaches for their third, fifth and eighteenth seasons, respectively. Nick Jonas joined the panel as a new coach, replacing Gwen Stefani. Meanwhile, Carson Daly returned for his eighteenth season as host.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, production has done some adjustments. For the first time ever, there will only be three weeks of Live Shows: the Playoffs, the Semi-Final, and the Finale.
The three weeks of live shows will also air as lives done at each contestant’s and coach’s home.
As to the voting system, the television audience will vote to save their favorite artists and artists who receive the fewest votes will be eligible for the “Instant Save”. America will then save their favorite performer by voting on “The Voice” app (available on iOS and Android) or NBC.com. The artists with the fewest number of votes will be “sent home” or eliminated each week.
The Voice 2020 is now down to its Top 5 contestants or finalists, namely CammWess, Toneisha Harris, Thunderstorm Artis, Todd Tilghman, and Micah Iverson. The Live Finale Top 5 Results will be aired at 9PM on Tuesday, May 19, 2020.
