Zan Fiskum (age 22) from Seattle, Washington performs “Never Be the Same” by Camila Cabello during the Live Top 17 Performances on The Voice 2020 (Season 18).
Nick Jonas said Cabello’s piece is not an easy song to sing. He tried singing it in the car and failed miserably. Nick said he loved the arrangement and said Zan has the unique ability of owning every song she sings.
Coach John Legend said Zan is so involved in how the songs are arranged, crafting every song to make it her own. “And then when she sings she’s giving you a master class in how to jump between your head voice, your chest voice, all these incredibly high notes, all these jumps and dances around the notes, it’s just incredible. And very few singers can accomplish what she’s doing.”
Zan Fiskum was chosen by John to be part of the Top 9 semi-finalists. Results of the semi-finals round showed that she was in the bottom five. Zan competed with Megan Danielle, Allegra Miles, Joanna Serenko and Toneisha Harris for the Instant Save. Toneisha won the Instant Save and the rest, including Zan, were eliminated from the competition.

“Never Be the Same” is a song from Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello’s from her debut studio album, Camila (2018). The song topped Billboard’s US Adult Top 40 and US Mainstream Top 40. It peaked at number 6 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Season 18 of The Voice premiered at 8PM on February 24, 2020 on NBC and will air Mondays at 8 PM. John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton returned as coaches for their third, fifth and eighteenth seasons, respectively. Nick Jonas joined the panel as a new coach, replacing Gwen Stefani. Meanwhile, Carson Daly returned for his eighteenth season as host.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, production has done some adjustments. For the first time ever, there will be only three weeks of Live Shows: the Playoffs, the Semi-Final, and the Finale. That’s a big drop compared to six weeks of Live Shows in Season 17.
The three weeks of live shows will also air as lives done at each contestant’s and coach’s home.
As to the voting system, the television audience will vote to save their favorite artists and artists who receive the fewest votes will be eligible for the “Instant Save”. America will then save their favorite performer by voting on “The Voice” app (available on iOS and Android) or NBC.com. The artists with the fewest number of votes will be “sent home” or eliminated each week.
